DII Spring College Playoffs Shift

The DII College Spring Championships have struggled to supply the first round of regional playoffs (April 19-21) with 16 teams, namely due to the number of teams in the western portion of the country, so the structure has shifted this year.

Two pools of four will compete at the East Carolina University (Greenville, N.C.), and another pool will meet at Little Rock. Five conferences will supply those 12 teams: Capital, Carolinas, Florida, Mid-America and SIRC. The fourth pool of four will be held at UC Irvine, and the Gold Coast and West Coast conferences will provide those competitors. At this point, if the Cascade’s Eastern Washington was interested in an at-large bid to the Spring Round of 16 spot, then it would need a play-in scenario.

The seeds and brackets haven’t been released yet, but the following leagues have held their playoffs:

  • Capital: 1. Salisbury, 2. George Washington, 3. William & Mary, 4. Mary Washington
  • Florida: 1. Eckerd (determined on standings)
  • Gold Coast: 1. Claremont, 2. Long Beach State
  • SIRC: 1. Tulane, 2. UGA, 3. Georgia Tech, 4. UT Chattanooga

Pending conference championships …

  • Carolinas: April 6 final @ Columbia, S.C.: College of Charleston vs. Coastal Carolina University
  • Mid-America: April 6 final @ Springfield, Mo.: John Brown vs. Kansas State
  • West Coast: April 6-7 @ Monterey Bay, Calif.; SF match-ups decided after this weekend between Saint Mary’s College, Fresno State, UN Reno and San Jose State

More to come.
