Midwest Announces Club 7s Championship Season

PRESS RELEASE – The Midwest 7s Series is an elite competition formed in 2012 through collaboration between the Midwest Rugby Football Union (MWRFU), the Midwest Rugby Referee Society (MWRRS), and the collective efforts of rugby 7s events across the Midwest Competitive Region (MCR).

For 2021, the Men’s Series will consist of five Qualifier Events. Clubs will have the opportunity to attend three of the five events as the Men’s Competition will be split into two conferences for the first two rounds of competition.

The Eastern Conference will be made up of teams from the following Local Area Unions (LAUs): Allegheny, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio; and the Western Conference will be made up of teams from: Chicago Area (CARFU), Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The third Men’s Qualifier Event should be attended by teams from both conferences.

Men’s Eastern Conference Qualifier Events:

  • Saturday, June 12 – Gem City 7s at Dayton Rugby Grounds in Dayton, OH.
  • Saturday, June 26 – Steel City 7s at McKinney Soccer Complex in Pittsburgh, PA.

Men’s Western Conference Qualifier Events:

  • Saturday, June 12 – Mad Jack 7s at Des Moines Rugby Football Club in West Des Moines, IA.
  • Saturday, June 26 – Firehouse 7s at the Blaze Rugby Complex in Lemont, IL.

Open Qualifier Event: Saturday, July 10 – Legacy 7s at the Legacy Sports Complex in Brighton, MI.

The Women’s Qualifier Series will consist of three Qualifier Events:

  • Saturday, June 12 – Gem City 7s at the Dayton Rugby Grounds in Dayton, OH.
  • Saturday, June 26 – Firehouse 7s at the Blaze Rugby Complex in Lemont, IL.
  • Saturday, July 10 – Legacy 7s at the Legacy Sports Complex in Brighton, MI.

Championship Event

The top four men’s teams from both Eastern and Western Conferences and the top eight Women’s teams will compete at the MWRFU 7s Championship on Saturday, July 24 at Cin City 7s being held at Brimelow Fields in Cincinnati, OH.
