Girls’ high schools in Iowa play their championship season in the fall but Covid-19 prevented the 2020 7s season from occurring. The boys also play 7s in the fall, but their 15s and primary season is played in the spring. Today, the organization published the following:

The Iowa Youth Rugby Association is making plans to hold both the boys and girls rugby seasons at the same time during the spring of 2021. The boys 2020 season was canceled and the girls fall 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Preparations are being made in regards to the schedule and locations of tournaments. Registration will be open soon. All plans are contingent on meeting safe return to play following local and state requirements, as well as World and USA Rugby guidelines.

We would ask you to hold any questions you may have until the general layout of the league and State Tournament have been determined.

High school organizations – like Rugby PA, Midwest Youth Rugby and ARPTC – have been coming forth with plans for the spring, all of which hinge on the guidance from state and local health officials. Senior club entities, like Midwest GU and the WPL, have also started ruling on the spring, but those prospects are less optimistic.
