Japan withdraws from Quest for Gold Sevens

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 9, 2021) – The Tokyo games move one step closer for the USA Eagles Sevens as pre-Olympic tournament Quest For Gold Sevens has finalized team participation and welcomes Great Britain (GB) Sevens and Jamaica to the competition slate. Both the men’s and women’s GB Sevens squads will travel to Dignity Health Sports Park with the Jamaican women’s team filling out the competition brackets. Initially committed, Japan and Samoa have had to withdraw from the tournament.

Director of AEG Rugby, Dan Lyle commented on the completion of teams, “Now that the field is set, we have been seeing good progress with ticket sales and hungry rugby sevens fans. New USA Rugby General Manager of High Performance, Dan Payne noted on the Tokyo preparation, “The opportunity for our teams to go head-to-head with potentially all Olympic-qualified nations, only a month away from the games, is massive. We know international rugby sevens has been tough to come by in recent months, so this event will really be a leg up for us, even more so with the home support. A special thank you to AEG Rugby for supporting and bringing this opportunity to life.”GB Sevens joins the team brackets where both the men’s and women’s sides have already qualified for the Tokyo games. The Jamaican women will venture to Los Angeles following the Olympic Repechage in Monaco, which will determine their Olympic qualification status. Should Jamaica qualify, all nine competing teams at Quest For Gold Sevens will have booked their tickets to Tokyo, where the experience will agreeably live up to the event name.With the visiting teams confirmed, the Quest For Gold Sevens official match schedule will soon be finalized and communicated to tickets holders and fans.
